This Dance

I think I’ve always been prone to more of a minimal, simple life by nature but “life” trained me otherwise. These past few months have ushered in a different pace for most of the world, inviting us to explore some new grooves. Speaking for myself, those old dancing shoes had to come off because they hindered me from finishing the race marked out by the Creator. The same may be true for you.

The problem (for me) wasn’t missing the drumbeat. I knew the life-rhythm I heard hidden and muffled was slower, far more intentional than I had been living. The new song involved savoring every step, soaking in, digging deep. I habitually dismissed the sounds of the Drummer, forsaking the important for the urgent. I’ve been too easily influenced by the world, even knowing it wasn’t satisfying. Awkwardly stumbling to keep up with the salsa when I’m more of a waltz-twist-swim kind of girl. I love the elegant beauty of the classics (including the Rat Pack in my opinion) and you’ll know I’m happiest when Louie Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald are crooning or a good 50’s tune is roaring!

I’m enjoying stepping into shoes that better fit - from how I wear my hair, rarely any makeup, and only a few clothes in the closet, to the way I select my daily routine and interact with people. I’m not keeping up, but leaning in.

Finding freedom from the fear of opinions (all the other tunes blasting out there - especially the ones in my thoughts) enables me to dance and sing the way the Great Musician intended, at least I think so. I can hear His frequency louder all the time and there’s no going back for this girl. I have great confidence God hears a symphony when His children fall into His rhythm, even flawed and fumbling.
